  • Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility
  • Thank you to the zoo for allowing the use of the building
  • Next meeting is Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 7:30pm
  • New member welcome and introductions
  • Motion approved unanimously to appoint Kristin Andris as new GPNA Secretary.
  • 2014 Steering nomination period is open.  Nominations close in October, and elections are in November.
  • Malkia Moore spoke on Arts Exchange. Motion approved unanimously to give a $500 grant to Arts Exchange for fire suppression.
  • Check out the Shops at the Pencil Factory.  The vendors are sending specials on Facebook.

  • Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct
  • Advised new members to check in or sign in.

  • Katie Howard: School Updates
    • SEACS Meeting on School Safety, Security, and Discipline: September 19, 6:30 pm at Benteen Elementary School
    • SEACS Coffee with the Jackson Cluster Candidates: Every Tuesday until elections. 8:30 am at Octane Coffee
    • ANCS Fall Festival: 10/19/13, Elementary Campus at 688 Grant St, $25 Family, $8 person
    • Parkside Elementary Fall Festival: 10/26/13; 11 am to 3 pm
  • Angelique Edwards: Neighborhood Events Update
    • Thanks to all who attended and participated in Music Mondays.
    • Movie Fundraiser: 9/20/13, Toy Story at Burns Mansion on Grant Street; suggested donation: $20 Family; $5 Individual
    • Scarecrow Contest to benefit GPPN: Oct 1 - 26. Winner announced Nov. 1. $5 to enter. Prizes available.
    • Halloween Parade and Picnic: October 26.  Parade lineup at 4:30. Parade at 5 pm. Picnic to follow.
    • September is National Preparedness Month.  Visit www.ready.ga.gov to prepare disaster plan for your family
Land Use and Zoning Committee Chair, Rick Hudson
  • 800 Glenwood
    • Legislation to rezone 800 Glenwood Ave is now law.  Mayor did not veto, so it became law at end of 8th day.
    • Special Administrative Permit (SAP), Attorney Appeal: October 10 at noon.  Please come!
    • Change in attorney counsel.  Dana Maine with Freeman, Mathis, and Gary, LLP will be new counsel
    • Go to www.smartgrowthatlanta.org to sign up, learn and DONATE to the lawyer fund
Fundraising, Cullen Boudreaux
  • Grant Park Mothball.  Theme is Hootenanny.  Tickets are available at www.gpna.org/mothball. $30 now. $40 at door
  • Volunteers are welcome to help create decorations
  • Seven Handle Circus was officially announced as band.
Parks and Recreation Committee Chair, Robert Greenage
  • Thanks to all who participated in Summer Shade Festival
  • Update on Erskine Fountain
  • Efforts to clear overlook of zoo Atlanta
  • Grant Park Conservancy Update
  • Upcoming events at park
Historic Committee Chair, Paul Simo
  • Three key Certificates of Appropriateness
    • 481 Atlanta Ave - looking towards major conversion
    • 0 Robertson St - lot subdivision
    • 301 Oakland Ave. - Home will be demolished.
  • Preservation Minute: Grant Park is part of two overlapping historic districts.  Check before you make repairs or additions.
Transportation Committee Chair, Louie Ingle
  • A traffic calming meeting will be held in October or November.  More information to be announced.
  • No street in Grant Park has a speed limit over 35 mph.  Be careful of speeding.

  • Support Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s initiatives to increase number of bike lanes
Economic Development Committee - Report given by LUZ Chair, Rick Hudson
  • SEABA will have two candidate forums, 7pm, Zoo Atlanta, ARC Building, Coca Cola World Theater
    • September 19 - City Council District 1, 5, Post 2 and Post 3 in attendance
    • September 26 - School Board
Technology Committee – Report given by President, Lauren Rocereta ~August meeting minutes were brought forth for approval, seconded and approved.
 
Open Floor Discussion:
  • Leslie Grant is running for District 1 School board. Reminder to attend candidate forums and take interest in at-large elections.
  • Glenn Wrightson is running for mayor - www.glennformayor.com
  • Dennis Dunn of St. John Orthodox Church invited everyone to a church cookout on Saturday, September 28 from 11 am to 3 pm
