  • Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility
  • Thank you to the zoo for allowing the use of the building
  • Next meeting is Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7:30pm
  • New member welcome and introductions
  • Present grants to area schools: Neighborhood Charter, Parkside Elementary, King Middle, and Maynard Jackson High School
    • Motion approved unanimously to add Wesley to school grants
  • Update from schools
    • Mya Jenkins, Assistant Principle of Neighborhood Charter
      • School just received $50,000 grant from Sartain Lanier Family Foundation
      • Participating in a campus-wide food drive for the Atlanta Community Food Bank
    • Caitlin Simms, Principle of Parkside Elementary
      • Robo Pandas team #3 were awarded trophies for "Best Robot Performance" and "Best Teamwork" at the First Lego League Robotics Regional Qualifier Competition
      • Captain Planet Foundation will hold a work day Friday, December 13th to begin the installation of the garden beds. A planting workday open to the entire community will take place in the Spring. 
    • Stephanie Jackson, Principle of Maynard Jackson High School
      • Maynard Jackson can receive donations if you register your Kroger card and Georgia Natural Power accounts
    • Paul Brown, Principle of King Middle
      • King is conducting a needs assessment survey, which can be found on their Facebook page
  • 2014 Proposed Budget presented
  • Motion approved unanimously to approve $475 in webmaster expenses in excess of 2013 budget
  • 2014 Porch Press Board Nominees Approved Unanimously

  • Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct
  • Advised new members to check in or sign in.

  • Updated Treasurer’s report - Review of 2013
  • Look ahead at 2014 budget
  • Donations to GPNA can be itemized deductions. You can specify where your donation goes.

  • Minutes from November 2013 meeting were presented
Public Safety, Chris Newman
  • Motion approved unanimously to support Bennett Market's request for retail license of beer and wine
  • Help fund additional holiday security patrol hours at www.grantparksecuritypatrol.com
  • Reminder to set your alarm to "stay" or "home" while you are home at night
  • Do not leave car running to warm it up or leave vallet keys in console
  • Do not leave empty boxes for electronics in front of house
  • Motion approved to designate $100 of public safety budget to Zone 6 Toy Drive
  • Zone 6 update - Major Peake
    • Vehicle larcenaries are on the rise. Keep your car clean.
    • Black male of medium build in a black Ford Ranger has been seen breaking into cars. Call 911 if you think you see suspect.
  • Keith Lamar, Community Prosecuter
    • Jessie Williams - Sentenced to 3 years after 11 convictions
    • Kevin Jones - Pled Guilty to Burglary
GPPN, Katie Howard
  • Grant Park Parents Network had successful Winter Wonderland
  • New Board of Education members will be sworn in on Monday, January 13th at 1:30pm at the APS central office - 130 Trinity Ave.  All are welcome.
  • Community will be painting over graffiti near Maynard Jackson. Contact Lesley Grant to volunteer to help paint.
  • January 16 will be tour of Maynard Jackson
  • APS State of the Maynard Jackson HS Cluster meeting will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 7 p.m. at Maynard Jackson HS.
Economic Development Committee, Presented by President Lauren Rocereta
  • SEABA Soiree: Thursday, 11/21/13, 5:30 pm, Agave
Fundraising, Kelly Tenedini
  • Wreck the walls party at St. Augustine's to celebrate demolition of Lenny's on December 20
  • Six Feet Under donated $2500
  • Tin Lizzy's donated $2500
  • Republic is having a fundraiser for Nicholas House
  • Business Sponsorship packages are available. Packages range from $2500 to $750. Please contact Kelly Tenedini if you're interested.
Land Use and Zoning Committee Chair, Rick Hudson
  • 307 Memorial Drive - New Development Proposed
  • Efforts for 800 Glenwood Ave. continue
Historic Committee Chair, Paul Simo
  • Historic Committee will help with Spring Tour of Homes. Those interested in volunteering to help organize Tour of Homes should contact Historic Committee
  • Busy year with COAs.
  • Reminder that Grant Park is in two historic districts. Contact the Historic Committee if you have any questions

Motion approved to unanimously approve minutes for November meeting.

Open Floor Discussion:
  • Question: is there a directory of approved contractors? Answer: No. GPNA can't endorse particular contractors.
  • Curbed Atlanta is having a neighborhood competition. Vote for Grant Park!
  • Remove trash cans from the curb after trash day; it is City law. Review requirements for what can and cannot be recycled.
  • Concern about some neighbors not receiving mail. Carla Smith is working to address it.  You can also submit complaints at post office on Pryor Street.
