  • Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility
  • Thank you to Zoo Atlanta for allowing the use of the building for the meeting
  • Next meeting is Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 7:30pm
  • New member welcome and introductions
  • Featured Organization: Boyd Coons, Atlanta Preservation Center
Vice President, Jeffrey Rogers
  • Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct
  • Advised new members to check in or sign in
  • Bylaws Ad-hoc Committee has convened and the agenda is set for the year.

  • Tour of homes made $6305.44 (does not include expenses to be deducted)
  • GPNA is a 501(c)3, so donations are tax deductible

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School
Neighborhood Events Update Parks & Recreation
  • Friends of Ormond-Grant Park have a goal to raise $25,000 to improve park
  • Grant Park Conservancy is discussing improvements for the Milledge Triangle (Milledge Triangle Initiative)
  • New kiosks will provide a space for signage in Grant Park
  • Efforts underway to add a banner to the building for the Grant Park Recreation Center since many people don't know it's there and  get lighting throughout park

  • Mothball is set for November 8
  • Mothball Committee Meeting will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Ziba’s Bistro, 7 pm
Economic Development Committee Chair, Rob Bernier
  • SEABA Soiree: Thursday, June 19, 2014, 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Ziba's Bistro
Public Safety Committee Chair, Chris Newman
  • Trestle Tree’s new management is adding lights, security cameras, decals for vehicles, and security gates.  Already seeing progress in decreased crime and gun fire activity.
  • GPNA Public Safety Committee and GPSP will host a class to review firearm laws and personal safety tips. 6/21/14, 11 am - 2 pm
  • Randy Troy has a court date scheduled for June 30, 2014. Chris Newman, GPNA Public Safety Chair, will attend. For info email [email protected]
  • Mounted patrol stable in Grant Park (located at end of Cherokee Ave) is open to visitors on weekdays and has free mulch and manure!
  • Zone 6 update
    • Sgt. Rainey
      • Most crimes are vehicle larcenries and burglaries. To deter crime: keep cars clean, be alert of those asking to cut grass, keep curtains closed, keep alarm on "stay" when you are at home at night.
Land Use and Zoning Committee Chair, Rick Hudson
  • New business potentially opening in Claxton property.  Will be seeking special use permit to mix cooking herbs and salts in building.
Historic Committee Report, Lauren Rocereta
  • Cyclorama is being nominated for the Georgia Trust Places in Peril
  • Grant Park is both a national and local historical district.  This provides some opportunities for federal tax credits. 
Open Floor Discussion:
  • Glenn Castle residents are saying that they must move out by August
  • Grant Park Conservancy is considering a BBQ festival for next May
  • Possible restaurant to open on corner of Boulevard and Memorial
  • 150th Battle of Atlanta commemoration events will be held in July.
