  • Welcomed everyone, explained the agenda and open floor rules, and voting eligibility
  • Thank you to Zoo Atlanta for allowing the use of the building for the meeting
  • Next meeting is Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 7:30pm

  • Announced highlights from 2014
  • Education: Leslie Grant, BOE District 1, [email protected]
    • Discussions about Southern Section of District 1 to be held every 1st Saturday from 8-9 Community Grounds
    • Grant Park's First Annual Vintage Prom to be held on March 14
    • Roof garden at Maynard Jackson is being planned
    • Cluster night at Maynard Jackson on Jan. 20, where all feeder schools attend a sports game
  • Richard Quartarone: SEACS Update
    • SEACS (South East Atlanta Communities for Schools) meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of overy month
    • Join the SEACS Facebook page
  • Carla Smith, City Council District 1
    • City Council recently voted on Hill facility to become early voting center
    • CHARM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) is planned to open in April. There you will be able to recycle materials like tires and couches.
  • Holly Wilhelm: GPPN Update
  • Grant Park Conservancy Update
    • Bring one for the chipper event turned 371 Christmas trees into mulch for the park. This is annual event, so bring your trees next year.
    • MLK Day of Service Project -spread mulch (From Bring One for the Chipper) in the park with help of volunteers

  • Minutes from December 2014 meeting were presented
Treasurer, Michelle Botwinick
  • We ended year in strong place with $35,574.81 in available funds.  Thanks to support of neighbors, we were able to donate money to schools, Grant Park Security Patrol, and Nicholas House
Philanthropic, Kim Holland
  • Nicholas House is requesting volunteers to help care for children on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, while parents attend workshops
Economic Development Committee Chair, Rob Bernier
  • Next meeting to be held on January 26th at 7 pm at Cafe' of Life Chiropractic
Public Safety Committee Chair, Chris Newman
  • Zone 6 toy drive was a success; GPNA had donated $100 towards it
  • Trestletree Update: Howard Franklin
    • There are now 24 cameras on the properties.

  • Zone 6 update
    • Lt. Desmond Floyd[email protected], (404) 673-9423
      • Zone 6 received crime reduction award for city; we had a 12% decrease in crime compared to this time last year
    • Zone 6 Community Prosecutor: Keith Lamar, [email protected], 404-612-7012
      • Guns and Hoses event: boxing tournament between fire department and police department, January 23
      • Citizen's Courtwatch can keep you up to date on trials, so that you can come and voice your concern to the judge about crimes committed in neighborhood. Be on lookout for following trials: Anthony Little, M. Hunt and J. Turner, Paul Williams, and Ronald Thomas
Land Use and Zoning, Rick Hudson
  • New committee meeting time was moved to 7:30 p.m., after transportation meeting on first Thursday of the month
  • Cherokee Lots modifications vote: agreed  upon by immediate neighbors to decrease number of townhouses. Motion to support was approved with 1 opposition
Transportation, Jim Vorix
  • Next meeting will be held on February 5, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at Zoo Atlanta, before Land Use and Zoning
Homes and History, Paul Simo
  • Tip of the month: handscrape historic houses; do not use pressure washing
  • Grant Park includes two historic districts
  • Hoke Smith Field House: GPNA Official Position Vote - passed unanimously
  • New Certificates of Appropriateness - 4 or 5 home renovations have come through
  • Mothball meetings will begin in late spring or early summer
  • Paul Simo & Abbi Rabeneck, Tour of Homes Update: Email Paul at [email protected] to volunteer your  home for the tour of home.  All home types (big and small) are welcome!

Open Floor Discussion:
  • 800 Glenwood preliminary drawings have been drawn. Rick Hudson, LUZ Chair, is working to find a way for neighbors to view those.
  • Dance 411 events: Jan 23 is lecture on kid's development; Dine Out at Argosy on Jan. 27; Feb. 21 is Free Community Arts Day
  • Community Garden is in 4th year with 19 plots. Plots are available. Garden suports Atlanta Community Food Bank
  • Trees Atlanta will be doing their annual planting in March.  Sign up to receive a tree in your yard
  • Grant Park license plate h olders will be on sale soon.
