Call to Order – 7:32 p.m.     

Officer Reports

President – Dr. Michelle Kirby ([email protected])
  • Reminder: The purpose of the monthly general GPNA meeting is for GPNA officers/committee chairs, local organizations, elected officials, etc. to provide brief updates to the community. In-depth discussion occurs at the committee level.
  • Zone 6 update: Sgt. King – new evening shift supervisor
  • Mitsah Henry for Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr
  • 5th Annual GA HOA Boot Camp @ GICC – 11/9, 8:00am-4:00pm
  • 6th Annual Blanket Atlanta With Love (#BAWL)
    • Clothing & Blanket Collection – Nov 4th-15th
  • All officers present at the meeting will run for the November elections. Nominations open through the end of the October meeting with the elections in November
  • GPPN update (www.GrantParkParents.org): Kristin Silton, president
    • Music in the Meadow from 6-7:30: 9/5/2019 in Grant Park
    • Movie night at the Beacon 9/28, starting at 6 with popcorn and beer
  • Historic Oakland Cemetery, Mary Fernandez ([email protected])
    • Many events coming up at the cemetery. Go to https://oaklandcemetery.com/calendar/
  • Urban Recipe $1,000 grant application (https://urbanrecipe.org/)
    • John Hale had presented last month of what their organization does and submitted a grant application as instructed last month.
    • The primary focus of Urban Recipe is the formation of food cooperatives for low-income families. Our particular “urban recipe” creates food security in a way that affirms dignity while at the same time providing a sense of support and community for our members.
    • Steering Group had approved prior to the meeting and the general membership approved unanimously a $1,000 grant

Committee Reports

Public Safety – Chris Newman ([email protected]) - Presented by Dr. Michelle Kirby
  • Prosecutor Lamar has retired
  • Robbery suspect near St Paull in January has a hearing on 10/2
  • New self-reporting of crime is on the APD site under menu item “I Want To..” and select “Report a Crime”
Economic Development- Samantha McKinley ([email protected]) 
  • In charge of sunbursts now. Order your Sunburst today and have it by Friday!
Fundraising – Laura Keen ([email protected])
  • Filming will occur 4 times on Mead St and Laura will post on Nextdoor the dates
  • Don’t forget to sign up for Kroger Rewards & Amazon Smile. Each of your purchases provide a donation in your name back to GPNA, at no cost to you
Philanthropic –Eliza Adams [email protected] - Presented by Laura Keen
  • Last Make a Meal was a hit and working on the next date. We need volunteers. Must be 15 years to be in the kitchen, but can 5 years and up to serve families. Contact Eliza if interested.

Homes & History – Paul Simo ([email protected];) - Presented by Dr. Michelle Kirby
  • 293 Ormond St update – we are aware that the property is on the market yet again. We will keep an eye on the activity and ensure a proper rebuild
Land Use and Zoning – Rick Hudson ([email protected])
  • 649 Woodward – Developer wants to change from R5 to R4b.  Our Neighborhood is comprised of almost all R5 zoning and we felt there were no extenuating circumstances that should merit this change.
  • Beltline Rail Now: Still fighting for what we supported and voted for tax support. There will be a protest march on 10/6 (tentative) to Marta Headquarters
  • Gateway update: masonry has started at Blvd and United. Material work should be complete by the end of the year and they turn it over to the city to begin the punch list. Anticipated opening in the 1st quarter of 2020.
